At the Wildcat Sanctuary in Minnesota, where over 100 big cats are cared for, a black leopard named Shazam recently experienced a significant loss. Shazam’s longtime companion, a black jaguar named Diablo Guapo, passed away, leaving Shazam without his best friend.
Despite their differences—Shazam being younger and clawed, while Guapo was older and declawed—Shazam and Guapo shared a strong bond.

Understanding that Shazam would struggle without a companion, the staff at the sanctuary set out to find a suitable new friend for him.
Julie Hanan, a spokesperson for the sanctuary, noted the challenges involved: “Introducing two big cats who are unfamiliar with each other can be risky.
If the introduction doesn’t go well, it can lead to aggression, fence-charging, injuries, and stress-related issues like weight loss.”
The team decided to try introducing Nikita, a younger white tiger rescued from a notorious exotic animal breeder in Ohio.
Nikita had endured years of abuse, and it took considerable effort to persuade her to move to a new enclosure gently.
Once settled, the staff closely monitored Shazam and Nikita’s interactions. Fortunately, the two cats formed a strong bond, proving to be a perfect match.
Shazam and Nikita’s new friendship is a heartwarming success. You can see their first meeting in the video below!
