Captured on camera at the majestic Masai Mara National Reserve just before Father’s Day, this enchanting moment unfolded before the lens of Sabine Bernert, a 53-year-old photographer from Paris immersed in documenting Kenya’s wildlife.
The captivating photos she snapped beautifully illustrate the lion father surveying his domain as his adorable cub playfully launches a pretend attack, evoking nostalgia for the iconic scenes from Disney’s animated classic.
Speaking about the heartwarming encounter, Sabine Bernert, photographing for a children’s book project, shared, “The lion pretended he hadn’t seen the cubs until the last second. Then they started to play joyfully.”
She admired the scene, saying, “I especially love the moment when the male lion is hugging the cub softly.
The contrast between his brute strength and gentleness is the massive size of his paw very softly holding the little cub.”
She added, “I was amazed by how this vast lion played so gently with the cubs. They looked like they were enjoying themselves and having fun.
With the delicate light of the sunrise, it was a pure moment of grace.”
