The cubs’ mother, Bella, who arrived at Skopje Zoo from Germany, has proven to be a dedicated and nurturing parent. She remains constantly by their side, ensuring their safety and well-being. The father of the cubs hails from France, adding an international lineage to this extraordinary family.
Zoo staff have taken extensive measures to support Bella and her cubs, providing them with a secure indoor habitat. This space is under constant supervision to ensure optimal living conditions as the young lions grow and thrive.
White lions are not a distinct species but a genetic rarity of the African lion, caused by a recessive trait. Their striking white coats make them one of the most enchanting sights in the animal kingdom, but their rarity also underscores the need for conservation efforts.
Currently, there are fewer than 300 white lions held in captivity worldwide, and only a handful reside in their natural habitats. The birth of these cubs represents hope for the preservation of this unique genetic lineage.
Skopje Zoo continues to prioritize the health and safety of Bella and her cubs, working to create an environment where they can flourish. With their devoted care and supervision, these cubs are not just a highlight for visitors but also a beacon of optimism for the survival of white lions globally.
Through their efforts, Skopje Zoo joins the broader mission of preserving and protecting these magnificent animals, ensuring that future generations will also have the chance to marvel at the rare beauty of white lions.
