The trio includes Baloo, an American black bear; Shere Khan, a Bengal tiger; and Leo, an African lion. The sanctuary took them in when they were under a year old after they were discovered in the basement of an Atlanta home during a police raid.

The young animals had been abused and neglected, left starving and scared of humans.

Shere Khan and Leo were both injured, but Baloo suffered the most severe injuries, with a harness so tight around his neck that his flesh grew into it.

After being rescued, Baloo needed surgery to remove the painful harness while his two friends paced anxiously around their enclosure.

Their evident concern for each other led sanctuary workers to consider separating them, but the cubs cried out when they were alone. The staff quickly decided to keep them together in a shared enclosure.

As they grew up, the bond between Baloo, Shere Khan, and Legrew became stronger. They enjoyed plenty of space to roam and caring people to look after them.

Despite their traumatic start, the trio found comfort in each other’s company, spending their days playing and cuddling.

It’s a heartwarming example of how animals, even from different species, can form deep and lasting friendships.
