Tom Cruise and Scarlett Johansson are both excited about possibly teaming up for a film. During the premiere of his latest movie, Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One, in Rome, Cruise expressed his strong interest in working with Johansson, saying he “absolutely” wants to collaborate.
This announcement comes on the heels of Johansson’s comments at the New York City premiere of Asteroid City, a film directed by Wes Anderson.
She revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that Cruise is the last major star she dreams of working with, stating, “I’d love to work with Tom Cruise,” she hopes someone will pitch a film featuring both of them.
Cruise responded positively, praising Johansson as “amazing,” noting her talent and star power. When asked if they would be a good match on screen, he confidently replied, “Yes. It’s gonna happen.”
While it’s common for actors to praise each other, Cruise’s remarks seemed heartfelt. He noted, “I’ve watched her career her whole life. She’s enormously talented and very charismatic. It’d be fun.” He highlighted Johansson’s versatility, mentioning her ability to excel in comedy, drama, action, and suspense. “She draws you in on the screen,” he added. “So absolutely, it’s gonna happen.”
In addition to discussing potential collaborations, Cruise shared his passion for filmmaking at the premiere, emphasizing his commitment to creating engaging cinematic experiences. “I love that cinema experience, and this film was made for that,” he remarked.
He expressed his desire to explore innovative ways to captivate audiences, saying, “I have always wanted to make movies and travel the world, and to be able to have this opportunity now, this is what I wanna do.”
This enthusiasm comes shortly after Mission: Impossible 7 received enthusiastic reviews from critics and social media influencers who had early access to the film.
Meanwhile, Johansson has garnered acclaim for her performance in Asteroid City, which has been well-received by critics, especially for her role alongside Jason Schwartzman.
In limited release, Asteroid City has significantly impacted, with an estimated four-day opening of $890,000, averaging $148,901 per theater—making it a record since the pandemic began.
Its distributor, Focus Features, noted that it has the best per-theater average since the release of La La Land in 2016.
