Teen Creates Stylish Bow Ties to Help Shelter Dogs Find Forever Homes

Published on

Fourteen-year-old Darius Brown aims to ensure shelter dogs get noticed and adopted by crafting unique bow ties that make them stand out.

His journey began in 2017, following Hurricane Irma, when he discovered that many cats and dogs from Puerto Rico and Florida had ended up in shelters near his home in New Jersey.

Darius, who had been making bow ties for himself since a young age, saw an opportunity to help these animals find loving homes.

He recalls, “Because I was making bow ties at the time, I just thought that if people look good in bow ties, why not dogs and cats?”

Motivated by the possibility of these animals facing euthanasia if not adopted, Darius made it his mission to assist as many shelter animals as possible.

His sister, Dazhai, taught him to sew when he was just eight years old, and despite facing challenges due to speech and motor delays, he honed his skills with determination.
