When Sweet Potato arrived at Broward County Animal Services, her condition was dire. Severely emaciated and anemic, she was little more than skin and bones. Her gentle nature suggested she had once had an owner, making her abandonment all the more tragic.

A Last-Minute Rescue
Just when hope seemed lost, Tri-County Animal Rescue stepped in. The team couldn’t bear to let Sweet Potato’s story end there.
“She was rescued from the euthanasia list at Animal Control, where her severe medical needs exceeded their resources. She was emaciated, dehydrated, anemic, and suffering from a pneumothorax and a broken rib caused by trauma,” the rescue shared on Facebook.
Sweet Potato was immediately placed under veterinary care. Despite her fragile state, her pleading eyes reflected an unbroken spirit, and her rescuers vowed to give her the second chance she deserved.
Beating the Odds
Sweet Potato’s road to recovery was anything but easy. Her treatment included extensive medical care—X-rays, ultrasounds, intravenous fluids, anti-inflammatory medications, and a custom diet to help her regain strength.
The rescue team’s commitment to her well-being was unwavering. When her condition was critical, Sweet Potato even spent a night under the watchful care of the hospital director. Slowly but surely, her resilience paid off.
