Champas the cat first arrived at the Animal Welfare League in New South Wales, Australia, back in December 2022. Initially, he was very shy, steering clear of any interaction with the people around him.
While many animals at the shelter found new homes, Champas seemed to be overlooked repeatedly. To help him become more visible to potential adopters, the shelter came up with a special plan.
They decided to help Champas become more sociable by appointing him as the feline receptionist. This new role involved greeting visitors from the front desk, giving him more opportunities to interact with people.

This change marked a significant turning point in Champas’s life. As he met more visitors, Champas began to understand that not everyone was a threat.
He gradually became more sociable and friendly, even purring for attention from visitors. It became clear to everyone at the shelter that Champas was finally ready for a permanent home.
The initiative turned out to be a great success. After 436 days at the shelter, a man named Nathan decided to adopt Champas.

Nathan shared, “For those wondering about Champas, the long-term resident of Kemps Creek – he came home with me today. After playfully biting my hand, he quickly settled down for a nap.”
Champas’s heartwarming journey demonstrates the importance of patience and creative thinking in finding homes for shelter animals. To see the whole story, don’t hesitate to share it with your friends!
