Scarlett Johansson, known for her elegant presence on and off the screen, is shaking things up with her latest role in Cameron Crowe’s “We Bought A Zoo.”
In this upcoming film, Johansson portrays a zookeeper, a far cry from her usual glamorous characters.
New set photos reveal her more rugged appearance, diverging from her usual polished image seen in films like “Iron Man 2” and “The Prestige.”
Johansson’s transformation is striking, and she is dressed in practical attire, including boots and a dark green shirt, with her hair left unstyled. Yet, even with minimal makeup, her natural beauty remains evident.
“We Bought A Zoo” also stars Matt Damon and Ellie Fanning and is based on the true story of a family’s journey to renovate and reopen a struggling zoo after the loss of their matriarch.
The narrative, adapted from Benjamin Mee’s book of the same name, follows Damon’s character, a widowed father, as he navigates the challenges of running a zoo while reconnecting with his children.
Director Cameron Crowe was deeply moved by Mee’s story, finding it profoundly personal. Despite the original setting being in England, the film relocates to California, a decision made with Mee’s approval.
Crowe humorously mentioned Jamie Foxx’s curiosity about the film’s production near his home, joking that Foxx was “tracking our movie through binoculars.”
Crowe also expressed his desire to collaborate with Matt Damon and opted for the American cast to use their natural accents.
While Johansson’s current role may stray from her usual seductive persona, her next project, a superhero film directed by Joss Whedon, promises a return to her signature allure.
“We Bought A Zoo” will be released in the UK on December 23.
