Valdez was drawn to a soft, persistent sound outside—a call for help from two tiny kittens. She discovered them in an abandoned box near her store, huddled together and pleading for attention.
Realizing they needed assistance, Valdez immediately took action.
Although some local residents cautioned her that the kittens might be feral and prone to bite or hiss, Valdez experienced the opposite. “As soon as I picked them up, all fears vanished,” she shared with The Dodo.
“These kittens weren’t aggressive; they were simply scared and in need of care. They didn’t growl or scratch, just trembled with their eyes nearly glued shut with dried mucus.”

Valdez brought the kittens inside her shop, and later, she and her partner, both experienced in veterinary care, took them home. The kittens were suffering from dehydration and flea infestations but still displayed a surprisingly positive demeanor.
“They were silent during the drive, just calm and settled in,” Valdez recalled. “At home, they impressed us by eating heartily and then curling up to sleep deeply, as though they finally felt safe.

They allowed us to clean their faces and tolerated their vitamin and dewormer treatments without protest.”
Currently, the kittens reside at Lucky Paws, Valdez’s other shop, which offers a pet boarding facility. Each day, they grow stronger and are now on the lookout for a loving home.

Valdez assures that the kittens’ future caretakers won’t have to worry about initial expenses. “We will handle their vaccinations, spay surgeries, and all necessary care at no cost,” she said.
“These kittens have shown remarkable resilience and trust, and we are committed to helping them get the fresh start they truly deserve.”
