After 475 days, a cat that went missing during a mudslide in California has been reunited with its family.
In January 2022, the Strogoff family had to leave their home in Montecito, California, in a hurry because of imminent mudslides, leaving behind their two cats, Diamond and Huguette.

Speaking to KEYT, Noelle Strogoff shared, “I had no idea what would happen and assumed they would be fine. When we returned, we couldn’t find them.”
Diamond held a special place in the hearts of Noelle’s 10-year-old son Alexander and her 7-year-old twins Benjamin and Violet.
The devastation was among many, as the mudslide on January 9 swept through, triggered by heavy rains over fire-scorched hillsides, destroying hundreds of homes and claiming the lives of 23 people.
When the family returned to see the damage, the cats were nowhere to be found. For the next year, the Strogoff family lived elsewhere while repairs were made to their devastated home.
They eventually moved back in January 2023, yet the cats were still missing.
A stroke of luck changed everything. Just last week, a worker at the Strogoff’s house mentioned how a cat he had been feeding nearby matched Diamond’s description.
Soon after, Diamond was finally back with her family. Unfortunately, Huguette has not yet been found.
