Most recently, the Duchess of Sussex was spotted working with the Altadena Girls Fire Recovery Fund, an initiative started by 14-year-old Avery Colvert to help teenage girls regain confidence and normalcy after the fires.
Meghan was seen in a casual outfit—jeans, a black t-shirt, and a navy blue baseball cap emblazoned with “L.A.”—lugging bags of donations and engaging warmly with the young girls.
A video shared by the organization on Instagram featured Meghan interacting with evacuees and carrying supplies for the donation hub. The event invited displaced teens to shop for clothing and personal items while working with stylists for free, aiming to restore a sense of self amidst the chaos.

In addition to their hands-on efforts, Meghan and Harry’s Archewell Foundation donated to the fund, further supporting the community’s recovery. The foundation has also contributed to food banks and opened their Montecito home to friends who were forced to evacuate due to the wildfires.
Despite their efforts, the couple has faced criticism, with actress Justine Bateman labeling them “disaster tourists” and accusing them of seeking a photo opportunity. Bateman wrote on X, “They are no better than ambulance chasers. What a repulsive ‘photo op’ they achieved. Are they politicians now?”

However, a source close to the Sussexes dismissed the allegations as offensive. “Meghan was born and raised in Los Angeles, so this is, and always will be, home to her. Her heart is completely broken for all the lives that have been lost and for those whose homes have been destroyed in these fires,” the source told Page Six.
Despite the backlash, many have praised Meghan and Harry’s efforts. Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo described them as “very caring people,” while royal fans took to social media to commend their dedication to helping the community during this crisis.

Amid these efforts, Meghan’s upcoming Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, has also been delayed out of respect for the wildfire victims. Originally scheduled to premiere on January 15, the show will now debut on March 4.

The Los Angeles wildfires have displaced thousands of residents, including celebrities like Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, and burned over 40,000 acres. As Meghan and Harry continue their relief work, their actions highlight a commitment to compassion, despite the criticism from some quarters.
