David Friedman was at the right place at the right time when he spotted a dog in distress near a highway overpass in Independence, Missouri.
On his way to work, Friedman noticed the dog dangling from an electric wire beneath the I-70 bridge.
“I saw what looked like a dog hanging from the edge of an electrical box,” Friedman told Fox 4kc. “The wire was choking him. His feet barely touched the ground, and he was struggling to move his head.”
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Friedman quickly called 911 and grabbed a knife to free the dog.
Once freed, the dog was visibly struggling to breathe and could not walk. After calming him down, Friedman took the dog to the KC Pet Project for medical attention.
The dog, later identified as Max, was microchipped, and his owner, D-Von, was soon notified that his missing dog had been found just two hours after being reported lost.
D-Von expressed his relief upon hearing Max was safe, but he was distressed by the condition his 16-year-old dog had endured.
It remains unclear how Max ended up in this situation. While it’s unknown if it was an accident or something more sinister, D-Von suspects his older dog couldn’t have traveled the distance on his own. The electric wire wrapped around Max’s neck raises suspicions of foul play.
D-Von intends to review security footage and has contacted the police, though he is thankful for Friedman’s quick action in saving his dog’s life.
In a heartfelt moment, D-Von personally thanked Friedman, saying, “Thank you, David, very much. You stopped what you were doing to save my dog’s life.”
