When dogs encounter threatening situations, they often depend on humans for kind-hearted assistance and support.
A young dog named Joy Bird found herself desperately in need of this help after she was struck by a car and left helpless on the side of a road in St. Louis, Missouri. As vehicles passed by, Joy Bird lay there with fearful eyes, hoping for someone to notice her plight and offer assistance.

Despite several people passing by without stopping, Joy Bird maintained her faith in the kindness of humans. This faith was rewarded when local police officers noticed her curled up by the road and quickly came to her rescue. Seeing them approach, Joy Bird seemed to let out a breath of relief as help finally came.
The officers acted swiftly to keep Joy Bird safe from traffic by forming a barrier around her. They also contacted Stray Rescue of St. Louis for further assistance. While waiting for the rescue team, the officers offered comfort by petting her gently and reassuring her that she would be okay.
When the rescue team arrived, they were touched by Joy Bird’s expressive eyes, pleading for help and showing gratitude. They observed that she had a few cuts and struggled to move her back legs, prompting them to gently lift her into their vehicle and rush her to a veterinary clinic for immediate treatment.

Thankfully, the examination revealed that Joy Bird’s injuries, though painful, were not life-threatening. She had a broken hip, but with time and proper care, she was expected to recover completely. The Stray Rescue of St. Louis shared on Facebook, “It will take time and lots of crate rest, but she should make a full recovery.”
At the clinic, the staff worked diligently to calm and comfort Joy Bird, scheduling her hip surgery for the following day. After a restful night, Joy Bird started feeling more at ease among the caring staff members.
The surgery was a success, and Joy Bird slowly began her journey to recovery. Due to her inability to walk initially, her human helpers took her for strolls in a stroller, allowing her to enjoy the outdoors. Joy Bird loved these outings, her joyful face lighting up as she soaked in the sunshine. The rescue shared on their Facebook page, “She loves going out in her stroller and feeling the sun. She’s such a sweet girl.”

Thanks to the compassionate care she received at Stray Rescue of St. Louis, Joy Bird’s condition improved significantly. A few weeks post-surgery, she was ready to transition into foster care, where she was warmly welcomed and showered with affection.
While Joy Bird cherished her time with her foster family, she still dreams of finding a forever home where she can return the love she’s received and offer her unconditional affection to her own permanent family.
