Harley’s owner, Ralph Dorn, witnessed the extraordinary scene unfold as his beloved six-year-old canine plunged into action without hesitation.
About 200 feet from shore, Harley was spotted paddling alongside an unknown creature, prompting Ralph to investigate further.
What Ralph discovered was remarkable – Harley was on a rescue mission. Without second-guessing himself, Harley had leaped into action to save a baby fawn from drowning.
“Harley must’ve seen the fawn out in the water and just jumped into action,” Ralph recalls.
With the fawn struggling to stay afloat, Harley became its unwavering lifeline, guiding it patiently toward the safety of the shoreline.
Despite the challenges posed by the fawn’s lack of coordination, Harley remained steadfast, herding his newfound friend to safety.
“Every time the fawn tried to turn away, Harley would herd it back towards the shoreline,” Ralph explains.
Thanks to Harley’s intervention, the baby fawn’s life was spared. Once on dry land, Harley showered the fawn affectionately, ensuring its well-being.
But Harley’s heroics didn’t end there. The following morning, he surprised Ralph and his wife, Patricia, by alerting them to the presence of the rescued fawn outside.
Recognizing his furry friend’s calls, Harley reunited with the fawn, sharing a heartwarming moment of camaraderie.
Harley’s instinctual desire to help others is no surprise to those who know him best. As a certified therapy dog before his heroic rescue, Harley dedicated himself to serving his local community, bringing joy and comfort to older people and children alike.
