After being abandoned by her previous owners last year, a charming calico cat wandered through a neighborhood, seeking affection and meals from the kind-hearted residents.
Her friendly demeanor and social nature impressed many, but her life took a turn when neighbors realized she was expecting kittens.
The community reached out to Homeward Bound Cat Adoptions, a local rescue organization, for assistance. They welcomed the pregnant cat into their care, ensuring she had a safe, comfortable home.
Ellen Richter, a dedicated volunteer at the rescue, took the cat into her foster home. She prepared a cozy setup with warm blankets and even mixed a bit of outdoor dirt into the litter box to ease the transition from outdoor life.
The cat, now named Ambria, quickly settled into her new surroundings. She was relieved to have food readily available and affection from Ellen. “She once had a family with regular meals and love, and now she can feel secure again,” Ellen observed.
As Ambria’s due date neared, she became more affectionate, enjoying human company and relishing the chance to eat her fill. Within a week of being in Ellen’s care, Ambria began preparing her nesting area.
Three days later, Ellen found that Ambria had given birth. Initially, two tiny kittens lay at her side, and by the end of the day, the count rose to four. Unfortunately, one kitten did not survive, but the remaining three thrived under Ambria’s attentive care.
Ellen described how protective Ambria is over her fluffy kittens. She is quick to respond when any of them cry out, showing her dedication as a mother.
Ambria continues to savor her indoor life, often taking breaks to enjoy Ellen’s company before returning to nurture her kittens.
Changing the kittens’ blankets has turned into a daily challenge due to Ambria’s protective nature, but her love for her kittens is clear.
They nurse eagerly, their bellies full, then drift into peaceful slumber under their mother’s watchful eyes. Ambria’s care has already resulted in round, healthy kittens, the loudest of which is a ginger and white bundle of energy.
As the kittens prepare to open their eyes in the coming weeks, they will begin exploring their new environment. Ambria, too, enjoys knowing that her final litter will grow up safe, loved, and indoors, free from the worries of the outdoor world.
