Some stories start off on a somber note and transform into tales that leave us smiling. Such was the case for Niall Harbison, a founder of Happy Doggo, who unexpectedly lived a life-changing experience with a dog named Tina.
Niall’s journey began when he encountered Tina, a stray dog in distress, chained and severely malnourished. Initially, his only thought was to alleviate her suffering and provide her the care she desperately needed.
Tina was in a dire state, nothing but skin and bones, unable to move freely or find food and water. Her fur was almost entirely gone due to a severe skin condition, making it difficult to even identify her breed. Later, Niall discovered she was a Golden Retriever.
An emotive TikTok video shared by @happydoggoniall revealed that Tina had been exploited as a “breeding machine” for most of her life, leaving her both physically and emotionally scarred.
Even after bringing Tina into his home, Niall had his work cut out for him. A few days later, Tina’s stomach swelled significantly after eating, and she had to be rushed to the vet. There, she received emergency treatment and spent several days recuperating in intensive care.
Once back home, Tina’s outlook started to brighten. Despite her past hardships, she began to show a lively personality and a deep affection for Niall. With love and care, Tina’s physical and emotional wounds began to heal, creating a strong bond between her and Niall.
Sadly, just four months into her newfound happiness, Tina was diagnosed with kidney failure. Though the news was disheartening, Tina surprised everyone with her resilient spirit. She continued to relish life, playing with tennis balls, swimming, and enjoying time on her hammock.
For six wonderful months, Tina embraced life, cherishing each moment as if it were her last. Eventually, it was time for her to say goodbye as she passed away, leaving Niall heartbroken but also grateful for the joy she brought to his life.
In memory of Tina, Niall turned his grief into action. She inspired him to establish one of the largest animal charities, Happy Doggo, and to start “Tina’s Hospital,” extending her legacy by helping countless other dogs in need.
Tina’s story serves as a powerful reminder of resilience and living life fully, no matter the circumstances. Through her journey, she inspires us to fight through hardships and savor every moment. Her legacy endures in the mission of Happy Doggo, aiming to bring hope and love to neglected animals everywhere.
“Tina was the most unbelievable dog there ever was,” Niall fondly recalls, describing her as his soulmate. Her story continues to touch many hearts, demonstrating the profound impact one small life can have on the world.
