There’s something truly wondrous about witnessing the transformation of an animal when shown love and care. A neglected dog can blossom into a lively and cherished companion with just a bit of compassion and attention.

If you haven’t witnessed such a change yourself, the journey of a little dog from Texas named Mrs. Greg is sure to leave a lasting impression.
The turning point for this stray dog occurred when an animal control officer discovered her alone and brought her to a local shelter. The staff quickly realized they lacked the resources to provide the extensive care she needed.
In poor condition and clearly in distress, Mrs. Greg was transported to Austin Pets Alive!, an organization equipped for handling severe medical cases.
“Mrs. Greg was in poor condition. She tested positive for parvovirus and had severe sarcoptic mange,” Luis Sanchez, director of public relations and communications at Austin Pets Alive!, explained to The Dodo.
Although parvovirus is a severe and often fatal illness, Mrs. Greg demonstrated tremendous resilience and managed to overcome it.
Her battle with mange was ongoing, and she remained hairless for some time. This led to concerns among the staff that prospective adopters might not see past her appearance. However, one person did.
Olivia saw beyond Mrs. Greg’s bare skin and potential challenges. She adopted her, giving her a new name, Winnie, and vowed to support her in recovering fully.
Post-adoption, Winnie’s journey continued to be fraught with health challenges, requiring persistent care and attention.
“I know she fought through the parvo and mange in the shelter, and it took a while for her to be fully okay after being adopted.
She kept getting sick and having tummy issues, but she was a trooper and a happy puppy through it all,” Olivia shared with The Dodo.
Olivia embraced Winnie, regardless of whether she would ever regrow her coat. Winnie, bald patches and all, was beloved.
Then an unexpected change happened.
Gradually, Winnie began to grow a coat of soft, fluffy fur, much to the surprise of everyone who had known her in her earlier days of struggle.
“I cannot believe how much fur she has now. I feel like she keeps getting more!” Olivia marveled.
Today, Winnie is a picture of health and happiness. The once hairless and frail pup has blossomed into a vibrant dog with a lush coat, living a life full of love and comfort. Her story is a testament to the transformative power of patience and kindness.
