The Importance of Foster Care for Rescued Animals
Foster care plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation of rescued animals. These creatures often come from harsh environments where they suffer from fear, confusion, and a deep mistrust of humans.
However, with the right foster family, they can experience love and learn what being part of a family means.

This is precisely what happened to a dog named Putri when she was fostered by a woman named Kelly.
A Harsh Start to Life
Putri’s early life was spent on the streets, where she struggled to find food and water. Malnourished and suffering from severe hair loss, her chances of survival were slim. Thankfully, rescuers found her quickly and rushed her to a vet for immediate care.

While her medical needs were met, the vet knew Putri needed more than physical healing. She required a loving foster home to help her recover emotionally, and that’s where Kelly came in.
“She was just completely terrified, so they thought it would be so much better for her to heal and rest and recover in a foster home. I told them I can take her,” Kelly shared with The Dodo.
Adjusting to Foster Life
Upon arrival at Kelly’s home, Putri was so scared that she hid in the bushes, which became her refuge for the next three weeks.

Kelly, understanding the importance of patience, didn’t force her out. Instead, she left food near the bushes and gradually sat closer with food in her hand until Putri felt comfortable enough to eat from it.
Despite this progress, Putri remained wary. Any movement from Kelly caused her to retreat into the bushes. Kelly realized that although Putri was slowly learning to trust, she couldn’t stay hidden forever.
A Surprising Breakthrough
Kelly was also concerned about how her dogs, who were very happy and outgoing, might affect Putri.

However, her fears were unfounded. One morning, Kelly found Putri happily playing with the other dogs, marking a significant milestone in her recovery.
This newfound confidence allowed Putri to explore the house, and she soon enjoyed walks and outdoor adventures.
“The first time she laid down on her side with her stomach exposed was like, she really feels relaxed and vulnerable,” Kelly said.

“But I think for her, the biggest thing was when she started to be able to leave my house and go for walks.”
A Heartwarming Transformation
Putri’s transformation was remarkable. She went from a scared dog hiding in bushes to one eagerly awaiting Kelly’s return for pets and cuddles.
Her fur grew back, she gained healthy weight, and her confidence soared. Kelly credits her other dogs for crucial role in showing Putri how to enjoy life.

Today, Putri is a picture of happiness and health, all thanks to Kelly’s patience and dedication. Kelly’s efforts have saved Putri’s life and given her a chance to experience the joy of being a loved family member.
