When the abandoned pit bull finally realized he was safe, his entire demeanor transformed.
M. Roger Massey was committed to rescuing a pit bull he found alone in the woods. Unfortunately, the path to saving this dog proved more challenging than Massey anticipated.
The dog, who was later named Pappas, was too scared to let anyone get close and would growl whenever people approached.

He didn’t understand that these individuals wanted to help him and was overtaken by fear and distress. His previous experiences had taught him to be apprehensive and untrusting.
Massey shared about his efforts on Facebook, commenting, “I’ve rescued four abandoned dogs from this park, but this guy is too aggressive.”
Determined to help Pappas, Massey sought assistance from various sources. He consistently left food and water for Pappas at a safe distance.

Interestingly, Pappas was comfortable around Massey’s dogs, but he stayed wary of humans. Saving Hope Animal Rescue also offered their support, but initially, they faced similar challenges.
After enduring three weeks alone in the wilderness, Pappas finally surrendered. Two dedicated volunteers gently approached him and carefully placed a leash around his neck.
Up close, it became evident that Pappas only had three legs and was weakened from prolonged isolation. It took time for him to decide that trusting people was worthwhile.

The moment Pappas felt secure, everything changed. He no longer needed to act tough. Those who helped in his rescue celebrated as Pappas revealed his true personality, transforming into an affectionate dog eager for love.
Lauren Anton, the executive director of Saving Hope Animal Rescue, shared with The Dodo, “He wants to follow his human everywhere and has the most soulful eyes.”
Now, Pappas is enjoying life in a foster home while he waits to be adopted. He is cherishing every moment of his new journey, with hopes of finding a permanent and loving home very soon.
