In Cleveland, Ohio, a dog named Cora experienced a challenging ordeal when her owner heartlessly abandoned her, tying her to a fence near a busy road. Hidden by the surrounding trees and bushes, Cora went unnoticed for several days, anxiously waiting for someone to rescue her.
For three long days, Cora, without food or water, remained hopeful that someone would come to her aid. Her chance finally came when a passerby noticed her and called animal control. Melina Russo, an officer from Cleveland Animal Control, quickly responded to the call. She was both saddened and uplifted to see Cora’s enthusiastic greeting, despite the neglect she had suffered. Russo approached carefully, offering treats, and gently secured a leash around the grateful dog’s neck.

After ensuring Cora was safe, Russo checked for a microchip but didn’t find one, so she took Cora to the local shelter. There, the staff, charmed by Cora’s friendly nature and good manners, also felt heartbroken over her previous suffering. Cora soon recovered and was ready to find a loving home.
Two weeks later, a family visited the shelter and instantly fell in love with Cora. Erin, who would become Cora’s new mom, felt an immediate bond. “I just knew she was ours,” Erin shared with The Dodo.
Cora joined her new family, leaving her painful past behind. Surrounded by love and care, she started to thrive, revealing her joyful personality. Her new family couldn’t imagine life without her. “She is home. We are so lucky to have her,” Erin expressed.
Cora’s transformation from a neglected dog to a beloved family member highlights her resilience and capacity to love and be loved unconditionally.
