Karyn Poplin and her husband had their hearts captured when they met Kitty, an 18-year-old tortoiseshell cat, and her brother Smokey, who is 13.
Faced with the possibility of these lifelong companions being separated or ending up in a shelter, the couple decided to offer them a permanent home where they could enjoy their senior years together.
The Poplins welcomed the feline duo to their cat sanctuary, Kitty Adventure Rescue League & Sanctuary. It didn’t take long for Kitty and Smokey to settle in comfortably.

As Poplin shared with Love Meow, “They’ve adjusted quite well so far! Both out and exploring, both slept in the bed with us last night. They seem to like it here.”
Despite her age, Kitty’s spirit remains youthful. Her affectionate and friendly nature quickly made her a beloved member of the household. In no time, she confidently claimed the bed as her own domain.

Smokey, on the other hand, enjoys cozy moments tucked under the blankets, often snuggling next to Poplin’s husband. “Smokey cuddled up to my husband’s back. He likes to be under the covers,” Poplin mentioned to Love Meow.
For Kitty and Smokey, having a place where they can remain together and experience love and care means everything. They desired only comfort and companionship, both of which they now have in abundance.

Kitty has even bonded with another cat named Samantha, forging new friendships in her new home.
This heartwarming tale highlights the joy of adopting older pets. Consider offering a loving home to a senior cat from your local shelter, and share this story to inspire others to do the same.
