Sometimes, the right place at the right time can make all the difference, and if Eddy the Shih Tzu could talk, he’d surely tell you that himself! This adorable pup was in a tough spot, struggling to survive in a drainage ditch, locally known as a bayou, in Houston, Texas.
Poor Eddy was doing his best to cling to some reeds and stay afloat, shivering and scared, when a kind passerby finally noticed him. It wasn’t clear how Eddy, a stray, ended up in such a situation, but escaping on his own seemed impossible.
In his desperate state, Eddy was on the verge of drowning with no one to save him until a heroic woman came along just in time. Her name is Velvin Alvarado, and she acted quickly, seeing the looming rainstorm that was set to turn the still water into a dangerous current. As Erin, Eddy’s first foster caregiver, shared on Facebook, “Velvin saw where he was and rescued the little guy from the water. He was very scared and traumatized.”
Without hesitation, Velvin waded in and pulled Eddy to safety. Once on dry land, she used social media to find help for the terrified pup. Eventually, Eddy found refuge with CAMO Rescue in Houston. He first stayed with Erin and her family before being transferred to another foster home.
Eddy, initially shy and fearful from his ordeal, was wary of people, often keeping to himself. However, with time and gentle care, he began to trust those around him. Gradually, Eddy emerged from his shell, learning to embrace the new life he hadn’t dared to dream of.
Eddy’s sunny personality shined through once he felt secure. He is now looking for a loving forever home. He’s best suited for a household with adults where he won’t feel threatened, and his playful nature makes him perfect for family activities like walks. “He has been around older kids and loves them. He is crate trained and goes outside eagerly,” stated CAMO Rescue.
His preferred meals include scrambled eggs and a mix of vegetables with kibble. After eating, Eddy enjoys socializing with other dogs and snuggling up to his human companions, promising to be a delightful addition to any family.
“Eddy wasn’t fond of kibble, but when mixed with scrambled eggs or a meat/rice/vegetable mix, he eats well,” the rescue shared. Eddy was underweight when he arrived, but he gets along well with other dogs and is ready for his forever home.
For now, Eddy is receiving treatment for a few health issues, including a urinary tract infection and other minor ailments. Once he undergoes neutering, this little survivor will be all set to join a loving family.
