Four kittens—Big Mac, McFlurry, Chicken Nugget, and Small Fry—arrived at the Arizona Humane Society, hoping for a second chance.

As strays, they required significant care before being ready for foster homes. Among them, one kitten stood out for needing a bit more attention.

Small Fry, the smallest of the litter, caught the eye of Angelica, a neonatal veterinary technician. Weighing just 188 grams at four weeks old, Small Fry was severely underweight. “She was so tiny and had difficulty eating,” Angelica told Love Meow. “She was very frantic and overwhelmed.”

Unlike her siblings, who adapted well to bottle feeding, Small Fry struggled and had to be syringe-fed. Angelica worked tirelessly to ensure the kitten received the nourishment she needed, feeding her around the clock.

Despite the challenges, Small Fry’s health slowly improved. After each meal, she’d fall asleep with her little tongue sticking out, completely content. It wasn’t long before Angelica developed a special bond with her and decided to bring her home.

As Small Fry grew stronger, her personality began to shine. She became playful and mischievous, often showing off her newfound energy by jumping around and swatting at the camera. Her love for food also flourished—sometimes so much that she’d doze off right in her food bowl.

Eventually, Small Fry caught up to her littermates in size, but she needed a companion to guide her in the next stage of life. That’s when Emilio, Angelica’s 11-year-old cat, stepped in.

Emilio had a long history of helping Angelica raise foster animals. He had been with her since he was eight weeks old, and over the years, he’d assisted in raising around 90 foster kittens.

Despite his age, Emilio still acted like a kitten and was always eager to welcome new additions to the household.

At first, Small Fry was unsure about Emilio. Having never encountered an adult cat, she was hesitant. But Emilio was patient, giving her the space and time to adjust.

Once she felt more comfortable, Emilio took her under his wing, offering warmth and guidance.

With Emilio by her side, Small Fry became braver and more adventurous. Emilio encouraged her to play while also teaching her important boundaries.

The two formed a strong bond, often seen snuggling together, with Emilio acting as her protector and playmate.

At seven weeks old, Small Fry now weighs almost two pounds, full of energy and a growing curiosity for the world. With a hearty appetite and a playful spirit, she embraces life with the motto: eat, play, sleep, repeat.

Though Emilio towers over her, Small Fry is determined to show off her wrestling skills, often practicing sneak attacks on him when he’s napping.

Thanks to her foster mom and new feline mentor, Small Fry is thriving and blossoming into a happy, healthy young cat.
