After losing her cherished dog, Lela, a woman discovers a wandering pup during her work that changes both their lives in unexpected ways.
In 2021, a food delivery driver was grieving the loss of her 14-year-old Shih-Poo, Lela. Struggling to adjust to life’s new normal without her beloved pet, an unforeseen encounter shifted her world.

While on her delivery route, she spotted a small, unkempt dog dashing across the street. Concerned for its well-being—and still mourning her own recent loss—she stopped her vehicle to ensure the dog’s safety.
“I saw this scraggly dog dart across the road from behind the truck, right in front of me,” she shared with The Dodo. “He was so little, and with my heart still raw from losing Lela, I couldn’t risk leaving him to be hit by a car.”

The pup eagerly approached her, almost as if he had been awaiting her arrival.
Finding no collar or microchip, she realized the dog needed support and took him to the vet for a checkup.

The vet determined that the three-year-old dog, now named Stitch, was in good health despite his tangled fur. After a week with no owner stepping forward, she opted to give him a haircut.
While grooming Stitch, she was overwhelmed by how closely he resembled Lela. Filled with emotion, she had to pause and cradle him, tears welling up.

Though he looked remarkably like Lela, Stitch had his own unique personality. Initially shy, he gradually grew comfortable in his new home. With gentle care and affection, he transformed into a playful, joyous companion.
Though she still misses Lela deeply, she feels incredibly fortunate to have found Stitch.

“I often ponder if somehow, somewhere, it was Lela who brought us together at just the right moment,” she mused.
This touching story of connection between the woman and Stitch shows how love and compassion can heal and bring joy to both animals and humans.
