Goose, a two-year-old Great Pyrenees mix, was discovered tied to a fence, seemingly abandoned by his owners. Despite this tough situation, his friendly grin caught the attention of two strangers passing by, who initially stopped to pet him without realizing he had been left behind.
One of the passersby, Lindsey Hawkins, noticed the note left by his previous owners, simply stating, “Don’t have time. Just take the dog.” Upon realizing Goose’s predicament, Lindsey decided to do more than just offer him a pat. She chose to become his foster mom and help him find a better life.

In an interview with The Dodo, Hawkins shared that Goose enjoys the company of people and always hopes for affection when someone approaches him. Concerned about his well-being, Lindsey took Goose to a vet as soon as she could. There, he was cleaned up and treated for ticks, and he patiently endured his treatments with a trusting smile.
“He never once showed an ounce of aggression during all of that. I think he knew we were really just trying to help him out,” Lindsey told The Dodo. Eager to bring Goose home, she found him trying to get closer to her during their car ride, attempting to climb into the front seat.

Once home, Goose was initially wary of furniture and hardwood floors. He preferred the familiarity of a rug in the living room or a carpeted hallway. However, it didn’t take long for him to settle in, making friends with his new family members, including a group of chickens and a senior therapy dog named Zeus. Lindsey soon realized that Goose had truly become a part of the family.
The day Lindsey and her husband decided Goose would stay permanently, he showed his gratitude by standing on his hind legs, placing his front paws on her husband’s shoulders, and nuzzling his head into his chest. Two weeks later, Goose felt completely at ease in his new home, confidently jumping onto Lindsey’s bed and walking across the hardwood floors without hesitation.

Inspired by his resilience, Lindsey considers training Goose to become a therapy dog, much like Zeus, so he can share his infectious joy and unwavering spirit with others.
