Abandoned animals often face uncertain futures, left in places where their chances of surviving are slim. This was the case for a gentle dog found in an isolated field, her situation uncertain until a compassionate rescuer named Kelly came into her life.
While driving through a Texas field, Kelly spotted the trembling dog and immediately pulled over. Understanding just how scared the dog was, Kelly kept her distance to avoid frightening her further. Although she attempted to offer food, the dog was too wary to accept it. Determined to help, Kelly realized the dog needed to be caught in a safe way. Reflecting on this with The Dodo, Kelly said, “I think we’re gonna have to trap her.”

Returning with a humane trap, Kelly and her team were relieved when the hungry dog eventually ventured inside. Overjoyed by the success, Kelly quickly moved to comfort the anxious animal. As she tried to leash the dog, she was startled to see the animal freeze in fear, highlighting the dog’s profound anxiety. Gently, Kelly took her into her arms and placed her in the car.
Back at home in Texas, Kelly and her partner, who manage an animal sanctuary, hoped that their other dogs could help the newcomer overcome her fears. However, with limited space, Kelly initially considered finding another home for her. But after experiencing the dog’s affectionate nature, they decided she would stay. They named her Sissy, and under their care, she began to thrive.

Sissy not only conquered her own fears but also extended her healing touch to Doug, another dog at the sanctuary suffering from PTSD. Doug, who had been too afraid to leave his room, found a friend and supporter in Sissy, enabling him to venture outside for the first time in ages.
Kelly is immensely proud of Sissy and Doug’s remarkable progress and the bond they’ve formed. Reflecting on their journey, Kelly remarked, “I 100% believe that there’s no coincidence here. She’s given us so much more than we can give her.”
