Many senior dogs, like Deja, spend their twilight years in shelters, longing for a loving home while younger dogs often find families much faster. Despite being filled with love and affection, older dogs are frequently passed over by potential adopters.
Deja, a senior dog who resides in a Florida shelter, is one such overlooked companion.
For almost three years, Deja has greeted every visitor with hopeful eyes, only to see them pass by without stopping.

Though she is incredibly affectionate, Deja remains at the shelter, with her caregivers working tirelessly to get her the attention she deserves.
The staff at Patty Baker Humane Society Naples, Florida, have watched Deja continue to wait. Each day, she peers out, hoping the next person will be the one who notices her.
Even as she ages, Deja retains her energetic and loving nature, known for what the staff lovingly describe as her “bunny-like zoomies.”
“Deja is a playful, affectionate girl who will keep you smiling, especially when she breaks into her signature bunny-like zoomies,” PBHSN shared on Facebook.

Though Deja is now a senior, her caregivers highlight her enduring vitality and enthusiasm. She thrives on human interaction and enjoys meeting new people.
“Despite being overlooked for nearly three years, Deja remains full of love and joy, always eager to meet new human friends,” the rescue explained.
Updates on her story are regularly shared, including a viral Facebook video showcasing Deja’s routine at the shelter.
Sadly, even with millions of views, Deja is still waiting for the right family.

In the meantime, her caretakers are dedicated to showcasing her in the best light possible. Deja truly longs for companionship and is much more than just another shelter resident.
Deja loves engaging in walks, enjoying pup cups, playing in the yard, and exploring new places. However, she does not do well with other dogs.
“She is not comfortable around other dogs and would do best as the only dog in the home. A calm, patient environment where she can enjoy her golden years at her own pace would be ideal,” the Florida shelter stated.
It is evident that Deja yearns for a devoted home to spend her later years. Until then, the PBHSN team continues to assure her many supporters that she is safe and well-loved.

“We’ve made sure to tell her that thousands of people are hoping for her to find a forever home.
In the meantime, please know that Deja is safe, loved, and well-cared for while we continue searching for the right match,” the rescue reiterated in another post.
While she is adored by the shelter staff who provide her with playtime and affection, Deja recognizes the difference between a temporary shelter and a forever home.
For now, Deja waits with patience, dreaming of the day when a family sees her not just as a shelter dog, but as a beloved member of their home.
