A heartwarming tale unfolded in Royal Palm Beach, Florida, where a stray cat, later named Cotton, found a new lease on life.
Blind and in dire need of help, Cotton roamed the outdoors, until he fortuitously wandered into the care of a kind-hearted homeowner named Joe.
While living outside, Cotton was discovered by Joe, who was struck by Cotton’s condition. “Cotton just appeared and started eating from my cat’s food bowl.

He looked like he hadn’t eaten in days,” Joe recalled to Cat Lovers through Carmen Weinberg, founder of Animal Friends Project.
It was clear Cotton was suffering. The mange-stricken cat, unable to see as his eyes were crusted shut, was desperate for help. Acting swiftly, Joe coaxed the starving creature into a carrier with food, and then reached out online for assistance.
His plea caught the attention of Carmen Weinberg, who had experience treating cats with similar ailments. She was determined to help.

The very next morning, Carmen picked Cotton up and took him to Justin Bartlett Animal Hospital. There, he was diagnosed with severe dehydration and malnutrition, alongside his mange.
Despite his severe condition, Cotton showed his gratitude by purring through his examination. Carmen’s family, all accustomed to caring for unwell cats, made sure Cotton felt safe and loved during his recovery.
With care and dedication, Cotton’s healing journey began. His family applied coconut oil to soothe his irritated skin and ensured he stayed hydrated and well-fed.

Slowly, he began to recover—his weight increased, and remarkably, his sight returned to reveal one blue eye and one yellow eye.
As weeks turned into months, Cotton underwent an incredible transformation. He became more vocal, seeking human interaction and affection. This once shy cat now thrived on attention and companionship.
Today, Cotton is living comfortably with his rescuer, Carmen. “He is very attached to me,” she tells Cat Lovers. “He follows me everywhere, and if he loses sight of me, he cries until he finds me again.”

Cotton, once hesitant around new cats, has even become friends with another foster cat, Neo, who also had eye surgery.
Carmen beams with pride at Cotton’s progress. “He’s adjusted wonderfully. I don’t have the heart to uproot him from the life he’s come to love,” she shares.
As Cotton continues to enjoy a life filled with love and care, this endearing story serves as a testament to the impact of compassion and commitment.
