On October 29th, Martun Davoyan was on his way to work when he spotted a distressed kitten near the road, struggling to move its back legs.
Concerned for the kitten’s welfare, Martun informed his workplace that he needed to help the animal, and he quickly turned to the Nextdoor App to rally community support for the rescue.
The extent of the kitten’s injuries soon became apparent. Martun and his wife dedicated two hours to finding the frightened creature, eventually locating it hiding under a concrete slab.

After carefully coaxing it out, they discovered the kitten was a young female and rushed her to a veterinarian for evaluation.
At the vet, it was suggested that her injuries could have resulted from an accident, like being hit by a car.
The diagnosis from her x-rays was grim: she would need an expensive surgery, between $4,000 and $6,000, known as a femoral head ostectomy (FHO), to restore pain-free mobility to her damaged hip.

Once news of the kitten’s plight spread online, the community sprang into action. A GoFundMe was set up to cover medical expenses for the kitten, whom they named Dino.
However, Dino’s condition worsened as she refused to eat and showed signs of bleeding, leading one of her online supporters—a seasoned foster carer—to offer critical help.
This kind individual visited Martun’s home late at night, equipped with supplies, and taught the basics of kitten care, managing to get Dino to eat from her hand, confirming that Dino was not a wild stray.

The following morning, Dino appeared distressed and unable to urinate, prompting another urgent trip to the vet.
Blood tests revealed she needed immediate surgery due to potential bladder issues and an abdominal wall hernia that might have gone undetected. They also discovered further complications, including a misaligned pelvis.
Despite their empathy for Dino and eagerness to aid her recovery, Martun and his wife faced insurmountable financial burdens and allergies that prevented them from adopting her.

The community member who had been helping Martun sought out more rescue partners but found resources severely strained due to high demand.
In light of Dino’s severe condition and uncertain prognosis, the heartbreaking decision was made to euthanize her to prevent further suffering.
Emotions ran high as Martun and others prepared to say goodbye, only for the nurse to emerge with unexpected news: a hospital technician had learned of Dino’s plight and wished to adopt her if she was surrendered.

Overcome with relief and joy, Martun agreed to the adoption, ensuring Dino, renamed Lizzy, received the love and medical attention she desperately needed.
Thanks to the collective efforts of compassionate individuals, Lizzy started a new life with her rescuer.
Just before the new year, Martun updated the GoFundMe page, sharing that the donations had been transferred to cover her care costs.

Although Lizzy faced some adjustments because the adopter’s initial pets were not receptive, another hospital staff member eventually adopted her, offering her a warm and nurturing environment.
Martun expressed gratitude for the community support, emphasizing the importance of creating a peaceful atmosphere for Lizzy’s healing and growth.
Ultimately, Lizzy’s story highlights the power of community cooperation and compassion, transforming what began as a dire situation into one filled with hope and a promising future for the little kitten.
