Many cats have quirky habits, but discovering a feline that finds comfort on a box of strawberries is quite unique. This amusing scenario unfolded when Carly Cox returned home with her groceries, piquing the interest of her curious cat, Remus.
Yet, instead of indulging in the fruit, Remus displayed a peculiar fondness for simply resting his head on the box of strawberries.
At first, Carly worried about the safety of letting Remus interact with the strawberries. She reached out to her sister, a veterinarian, who reassured her that there was no harm in allowing Remus to enjoy the box.

Relieved, Carly returned the packaging to him, and he wasted no time expressing his joy. However, his fascination lay solely with the box and its contents, not in consuming them.
From that point onward, strawberries became Remus’s favorite “toy.” Throughout the day, he would nudge and play with them, and when evening came, they made for the ideal cuddly companions as he drifted into dreams.

The question remains: what makes strawberries so enchanting to Remus? Apparently, he is not alone in this curious behavior. Joann Rademacher noted, “My cats love strawberries.
Won’t eat them… But they rub on them all the time!” Similarly, Bonnie Jean Frederick shared, “My cat is wild about strawberries too. I couldn’t figure out what made her so goofy around them. She’s also crazy for cloves, oregano, and nutmeg.”

Kimberly Asselin also chimed in, “My cat does the same thing; it’s gotta be the scent from the strawberries that makes them do that.”
Some people suggest that strawberries might be distantly related to catnip, potentially explaining why cats like Remus are drawn to them.

It’s believed that strawberries and mint plants might share properties with nepetalactol, the alluring compound in catnip.
Regardless of the exact reason behind this strawberry-centric feline fascination, Remus’s antics certainly bring joy to those around him. Do any of your cats share a similar obsession with strawberries? Feel free to share your stories in the comments!
