Residents of an apartment complex were taken aback when they noticed something moving on a broken roof. Upon closer inspection, they realized it was a puppy stranded and in need of urgent help.
Alone and scared, the little pup lay there, unsure of how to escape his predicament.
Thankfully, one of the residents wasted no time and contacted the Austin Animal Center in Texas. Two animal protection officers, Staci Figueroa and Erica Cerza, quickly arrived to assist.
Desperate And In Need Of Help
When the officers arrived and spotted the puppy on the roof, they were baffled by how he managed to get there. It appeared that he had wandered down the hallway of the complex and slipped through the railing onto the roof, only to find himself stuck with no way back.
Adding to their concern was a gaping hole in the metal roof near the puppy. A fall through the hole would have made the rescue far more complicated. Realizing the urgency, Staci and Erica quickly devised a plan. With the help of a resident armed with a screwdriver, they removed a picket from the fence that blocked access to the roof.
Once the path was clear, Erica carefully reached out and scooped up the frightened pup. Despite the ordeal, he remained calm in her arms and soon began to play with her hair, signaling that he felt safe.
Successful Rescue Mission
After ensuring the puppy’s safety, the rescuers informed the apartment complex management in hopes of locating his owner. Unfortunately, no one came forward to claim him. The pup was then transferred to the Austin Animal Center, where he was named Wicket.
Within days, Wicket’s playful personality began to shine. His sweet nature endeared him to everyone at the center, and it wasn’t long before he received the best gift of all—a forever home.
“No one came forward, and ‘Wicket’ was adopted to a new home last week,” the Austin Animal Center shared on Facebook.
Now, Wicket enjoys life with his new family, far removed from the dangers of decayed roofs and uncertainty. His days are filled with love, adventures, and joy—the happy ending every pup deserves.
